Twitter Trend: RIP Johnny Depp

Amazing how even the phenomenon ‘gossip’ can be magnified by Twitter. Just now the Twitter Trend “RIP Johnny Depp” became popular, even though this fine actor appears to be still very much alive.

RIP Johnny Depp

Rumor has it that Depp died in a car accident in Bordeaux, France. First word about this can be found on websites such as ShowbizGossips.com and DailyWorldBuzz.com while SmallScreenScoop.com actively claims it’s all a hoax and points to a faked CNN website (dating 2004?!!) reporting the crash.

Fans fight back

In the fight against the on-going RIP Johnny Depp rumour on Twitter, fans all around the world have launched the #JohnnyDeppIsntDead campaign to battle against the evil forces of gossip. Probably futile as Satan himself allegedly started the RIP Johnny Depp Trend.

Updates

I have not much to update on, so I’ll just post links to some good stories in here:

And:

While a call to a publicist or a proof of life photo is the usual tool for dispelling such rumors, the person on the leading edge of the Johnny-Depp-is-still-alive confirmation was an unlikely one: Crispin Glover. Glover whipped out his cell phone and called Depp, who answered, “Not dead, in France.” After that was cleared up, Glover mentioned being excited about “Alice in Wonderland,” and not so excited about a “Back to the Future” reunion. “No where-are-they-now, no reunion, I don’t want any of it,” Glover said. -NBCChicago.com

In the meantime I’ll just post Johnny’s News Twitter feed right here, so if this news network reacts it will be shown immediately.
